In the closing years of the 19th century the announcement was made
‘A new Lodge of Freemasons was consecrated last night at Freemasons’ Hall and The Prince of Wales was declared to be installed as its first Worshipful Master. The Lodge has been established especially for the convenience of officers of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines and the officials of the Admiralty. It bears the title of Navy Lodge and is numbered 2612 on the roll of the Grand Lodge of England.’
The Times – 13 June 1896
